My name is Zimasa Mnyaka. I'm a Trainee Designer at Donna Claire. I heard about The Foschini Graduate Programme when I was interning at different companies during holidays. This helped me get an inside look into the industry and drove my decision to become a designer.
Being a designer for a company like The Foschini Group is different in that you have to understand the business and be creative. You have to know your customer and design clothes that they will love.
As a designer you have to interpret international trends and keep up with fashion trends all the time. As a Trainee, you get a coach, someone who can teach you the skills to become a great designer. You also get a mentor, someone who can guide your career and help you with any other issues you may have at work. The Foschini Group is really cool: you get to be yourself but at the same time you have the Programme, which is a great formal structure to launch your career from.
The Fashion Designer is in tune with current trends and styles our products appropriately to suit our customers’ lifestyle. They invariably have weird hair and too many shoes.
